Trial: Perennial

Years Trialed: 1998, 1999

Good Qualities

Year 1

Late bloomer, great color, didn’t seem to have any insect problems; Nice flower, interesting foliage; Pretty color, lasted well in a vase.

Year 2

Excellent color (3); Glossy green leaves. Long lived cut flower; Late flower, good foliage color, large flowers; Clean foliage.

Problems

Year 1

Short stems (2); Seems to need an establishment year; ‘Hot Lips’ reacted poorly to the heat and all plants died by the middle of July.

Year 2

Too late in the season to get many stems. Not a very showy flower and not a good filler and the foliage is only okay; None; Some tip burn on foliage, not enough water?

Comments

Year 1

Late bloomer (2); This is going to be a good seller. Stems are strong and color good. Look forward to 1999; It is just starting to do something by September 23; The rain seemed to make the flowers that did open rot. The plants eventually all died; Started blooming August 10, still blooming September 30. We harvested but these were a little short for our market. Next year we should have the height needed; Hope it starts flowering earlier in 1998 because I do like it.

Year 2

I’m not crazy about this flower. The color is pretty but the blossoms fall off easily and my customers passed it by; Hope to get longer stems next year; Semi aquatic?
