Trial: Perennial

Years Trialed: 1998, 1999

Good Qualities

Year 1

Late season bloom. Elegant flower. Very tough plant; White blossom look like it has good potential; Wonderful color. Lasts forever in vase. Worked okay in my small bouquets.

Year 2

Interesting flower/Looks like an orchid (4); White color of blossoms; Nice late season flower; Late flowering, not much on market.

Problems

Year 1

All the plants died very quickly; Finding correct micro climate. Partial sun cool roots?; Never grew more than 2 inches; Stems too short for customers to buy but I used in small bouquets.

Year 2

Difficult to cut and market these branchy stems; Most died from poor rooting in flats. Only 6 survived. Colors mixed, not a good selection. Needs shale; Some tip burn, could use part shade, less heat, more water; No flowers; Some tip burn on foliage;

Comments

Year 1

The shade would be a better place for them to have a chance as they all died by the start of summer, when the heat set in; Very hot, dry summer. Irrigated regularlyBbut it is not happy; Very short; I didn’t get this planted until late so stems are short (I hope that’s why!). I really like this one. Pretty flower that lasted forever in a vase.

Year 2

Must be some better tricyrtis cultivars out there. Needs shale even in Oregon; Customers like it but they have to look carefully.
