Callicarpa Dichotoma 'Early Amethyst'

Trial: Woody

Years Trialed: 2004 - 2005

Callicarpa dichotoma 'Early Amethyst'

Good Qualities

Year 1

Colors early, nice color; nice fruit set and color; easy.

Year 2

Lots of berries, really nice color.

Problems

Year 1

Fades in sun; Berries often don't color in time for market sales, freeze before full color, leaves still a time consuming issue.

Year 2

None

Postharvest

Year 1

One trialer also noted a vase life of 14 days.

Year 2

None

Comments

Year 1

Two trialers reported the postharvest life as 10 and 14 days, respectively; I can't really distinguish between this cultivar and other callicarpa I already have; We are covering row with heavy 'remay', florists don't know what to do with it.

Year 2

Similar to 'Profusion'

¹Data shown are from those respondents who harvested stems. Some respondents may not have harvested stems because they were too short. Flowering stems may be longer next year after plants are established. See comments section for more details.

²1 to 5 scale, with 5 being the best. Market ratings are based on sales to wholesalers, retailers, or final consumers direct.
