Trial: Perennial

Years Trialed: 1998, 1999

Good Qualities

Year 1

This small spray of flowers finally bloomed above 6-7 feet. In meantime, plant forced netting to fall. They are so powerful; Just put a few blooms on by September 23. The stuff grew tall, then fell over.

Year 2

Excellent color and some fragrance.

Problems

Year 1

Too tall and needed support (3); Deer nipped on. Very rangy; Japanese beetles.

Year 2

Too tall (2); I didn’t get any blooms on this one this year; Not showy; No blooms; Has disease problems, flowers don’t hold up.

Comments

Year 1

Plants in northern areas did not flower. Very similar to a marguerite daisy flower. Not special enough to put up with the height. The flowers opened slowly so it did not flush; Please let us know how to get flowering on shorter plants! Cut back when? The flowers are a nice spray (like Rudbeckia triloba and nice color); Maybe next year. The few flowers I saw were nice; Good size plants but no flowers.

Year 2

Had to transplant to more open area because of height of plant. Planted in drought area so had no flowers. Hope to have a better report next year.
